Where's the anonymity?

A spokeswoman for Rolling Stones guitarist Ron Woods recently announced that Ronnie has entered rehab to help overcome his personal problems with alcohol.

"Following Ronnie's continued battle with alcohol he has entered a period of rehab," the spokeswoman said on condition of anonymity as required by her agency.

So, she's anonymous about revealing his anonymity? I don't get it. First thing he might consider after getting out is dropping her from the nearest coconut tree.

8263 days and counting. Good luck Ron.

Apparently he signed a release for his agency to report the info but his agency has their own rules. I wonder who would care anything about the identity of the spokesperson. Must be some reason for the rule.

Must be some reason for the rule.

My guess is that if the person's name were released, the agency would be flooded will callers specifically asking for that person by name to try to get more information. The operator/gatekeeper would then have a difficult time filtering out legit calls for that person.

Another reason is that it might give people the impression (right or wrong) that the spokesperson has some sort of special relationship with Ron Wood, so that person would be singled out in the future as the go-to person for any inside info on him.

Could be that person just didn't want to be outed for outing Ron. It's not that the man has a stellar image to maintain, as far as I know he isn't in the queue for Knighthood or Role Model of the Year... but this is the sort of thing someone in his situation might want to keep on the down-low for several good reasons.

In case anyone is wondering (I did), I'm not too concerned about my own anonymity because:
a) I'm not famous (Foo doesn't count)
b) I'm fairly secure in my own recovery
c) I haven't (and won't) violate any known traditions
