Slow Email

Faster Way?

My email comes from Microsoft Outlook on XP Home.

It seems to be very slow when you are pulling up new messages.

I constantly delete old messages so there is no backup. Rest of my programs

load promptly. Anything I can do to improve the speed?

Also can it be prompted to automaticaly down load messages as they come in,

rather than batch download them manually?...KF

(Lawman if this needs to be somewhere else, feel free. I just like to give you
all my business!) :o)...KF

Check that "leave messages on server" is turned off. Otherwise, it might take some time to sort through your old messages that are still sitting on the server. In Outlook 2000 it's Tools, Accounts, Properties, Advanced.

Also, there's an option to Check for new messages every X minutes. Try setting it to about 5 minutes. Tools, Options, Mail Delivery.

Mine is a little slow too, but it doesn't bother me because it happens in the background.

If you have any type of spam filtration (I have SpamBayes) at the local level along with Norton or something similar, mail will be slow. I start up every morning and the first thing I do is open mail, then I get a beverage, fiddle about and come back to the system for the day. I will typically have 300-400 messages that are unread each morning.

I do know that when I sit there and watch them, it is worse than paint drying! For each one, that little envelope comes up and it gets processed by the rules and regulations of my Outlook so it does take a little bit.

How many email accounts do you call on Send/Receive?

Mcavic, Thanks for the hints. Will try them out.

PageOne. Wow! 300 to 400 emails a day? How do you ever get anything done.

I get about 50 and it takes me an hour to get through them. I use just one

email address. Should I use more?...KF

That really is pocket change. I've got so many Outlook Rules and Filters set up that much of it is placed right where it needs to be and marked as read and/or unread through my rules. I'm a control freak and am notified for every little thing that might be out of place within our network. I also get constant bcc's on various applications being accessed, etc. I like to "know" things.

Hehehe, twice a month I get 750+ emails coming down the pipe at once. I have to wait a little while for those to be processed too.

Ah, one email account? Those were the days. I was busting at the seams trying to manage one email account. Plus, I needed the ability to manage those accounts separately from personal and business. I think I'm calling about 15 active accounts right now. I also have another 10 that are not part of the Send/Receive routine. I manually invoke those when I feel like reading spam.
