I was just looking at new PC and fewer of them are being offered with XP on them. Now a lot are coming only with Vista. Anyone know what the timetable is before XP is gone for good?

Dell, etc. are being cut-off next month. OEM/Reseller/VAR's can get it through Feb. '09.

They better not stop selling XP!

You can still buy PC's with XP from Dell. I don't know when it will be totally phased out.

I just ordered a new PC with XP from a small independent supplier.

I just bought a new Compaq laptop with XP Pro. I got it at a chain computer store. The only desktop machines they had with XP only had Vista on their recovery cds. You have to make your own recovery cds from the machine for XP if you wanted them.

Seems odd to me, but who knows.

They only had 2 0r 3 laptops with any version of XP on them. One Compaq and 2 Lenovos (sp).

I don't really need a new machine right now, but I wanted to get one, with the least hassle possible while I could.

That particular niche market is ripe and will be for the forseeable future. Get in now while you can. Become a reseller for your local independent supplier. Support your local economy. :)

Unfortunately the support for XP may not last forever. Once a new OS is released, it can be similar to a virus.
