DES MOINES -AP- Earl and Julie Beasley, facing prison time and government seizure of their assets, decided to take a trip to Disney World last week. And federal authorities aren't happy.

The divorced couple, convicted of conning the Quad City Times out of nearly $900,000, are now being accused of violating terms of their release as they await their sentencing.

Prosecutor Cliff Cronk has filed a motion to revoke bonds for both the Beasleys. He also requested the court to require the Beasleys to provide a log of expenditures, allow federal agents to inspect their house and inventory the items there.

"It is clear the defendants are unwilling to abide by the conditions of release," Cronk wrote. "They face prison sentences, are losing their home and all of their property, and they have no employment. Considering their dire circumstances, incurring further debt such as an expensive trip to Florida is tantamount to fraud."

Oh, sure, it's fraud. But, ya know, it's what they do, right? So, I have to disagree a bit with the judge. Considering their circumstances, what the heck! "Hey, why should we sit around all sad? And, what are they going to do, throw us in jail? They're going to do that anyway."

True, but pissing off the judicial system doesn't win you any brownie points when it comes time for evaluation for early release.

Also, I am guessing that a condition of the bond (for being allowed to stay outside of jail until the priosn term starts) is to not leave the area, or at least the state. It wouldn't be that unreasonable to think that instead of going to D-World, they might hop an international flight (or boat) and escape the country (and prison).

Especially if their assets are being taken. After all, what anchor do they have to keep them here? And especially if they were smart enough to sneak some of their money overseas where the U.S. governemnt didn't find it.

Without knowing all the details, my first thought is to take up a collection to buy a trip to Disney for the prosecutor, it really sounds like he needs a vacation.
