What is the worst film you've ever seen?
yep.... it was so bad that if you'd asked me what the worst film was without mentioning it, I would have chosen some other bad (but only marginally bad in comparison to GoM) film..... simply because GoM was SOOOO bad I have more or less succeeded in blocking it from my conscious memory.
Now of course... I can't think of any bad film BUT GoM...
which, by the way, sucked. :)
go2, isnt the plan 9 from outer space the worst movie ever?
there a a lot o bad movies, the worst from sci fi would be "mission to mars".
last crap i was watching was "scary movie" (1 or 2 i dont even know since i stoped after 10 minutes).
here is the site i visited several times in the past :
[badmovies.org...]
Right now SciFi's running 'Reptilian' and that's pretty darn bad.. actually makes GoM look a bit better - at least they had decent music and their cheesy lines aren't quite as cheesy as this.. (don't even ask why it's still on .. i have no idea why I'm not changing the channel)
Ironic that this subject should come up right now. Day before last I actually turned off a rented movie for the first time... and I've managed to sit through some horrible films. :)
It was "The Applegates" by the same writer and director that did "Heathers". I rented it on that fact alone since I thought Heathers was brilliant.
Unfortunately The Applegates was a b movie farce that couldn't even qualify for the "so bad it's good" award. Ugh.
Mind you, neither of the above came anywhere near being highly acclaimed.
As for that... My top list of acclaimed films that in my opinion weren't worth the celluloid they were burned on:
Breaking The Waves - Cannes winner that I couldn't stand. Well, actually I did stand... in the theater... to go out for a cigarette. When I did, the three friends I went with all moved to stand up as well, in relief, thinking I was making a move to leave. Boy were they disappointed when I told them I'd be right back. ;) Should have never looked back while I had the chance.
Mulholland Drive - David Lynch certainly has brilliance, and this film had it's moments as well. Shame he didn't make an even half-hearted attempt at a cohesive storyline with this one.
Sense and Sensibility - Dull, slow, and uninspired period piece.
This coming from a man who loves period films and movies that many others think are dull, slow, and uninspired. *Maybe* I'd have been less disappointed if I hadn't known that this was directed by Ang Lee who brought us Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon.
Lord of the Rings. Worst movie I've seen in years. Bad casting, bad acting, bad script, bad predictable formula plot (5mins into it, you knew the whole story), bad directing, depressing sets, even more depressing costums wrapped in the most over hyped promo package since ShowGirls and HudsonHawk. Three hours of drivel. No, I didn't read the books and there is no way now after seeing that movie. (least ShowGirls had gratuitous nudity). Bless the guy that thought up fast forward!
talking about crap movies - now i rememebr -texas chainsaw masacer or something. this movie is everything but horror :)
Lord of the Rings. Worst movie I've seen in years.
Gladiator was terrible
Hackers was bad.
Independence Day
Clint Eastwood's critically acclaimed Unforgiven was terrible
Excellent movie.
"Lost in Space"
Want some bad movies:
Star wars episode 1 (haven't seen 2)
The remake of the Time Machine
The remake of planet of the apes (real stinky)
Taxi Driver
Richard Lowe
Lord of the Rings....
...bad predictable formula plot (5mins into it, you knew the whole story),...
The reason you were able to predict the story 5 mins after it began is because the plot of this epic has been copied by virtually every other fantasy movie and book since LoTR was written. It has become formulaic, but when these books were written, there was no formula. It is the formula! The movie makers aren't going to give it a fresh new plot just for a few surprises. I think it's important that they are sticking to the original plot/theme (more or less). I have to say that after seeing Fellowship of the Ring, I was very happy with the casting, costumes, settings, etc. A couple of the actors could have worked a little harder... maybe they'll get it right in the next one :)
:)
One of the worst movies I've seen (and no one I've ever mentioned this to agrees with me) was 'Rushmore.' Ugh ugh ugh.
'A Knight's Tale' comes in at a close second.
I don't remember it's name-I was gonna recommend it to you:)
Dan
Fact is, if it's bad, I can't remember it at all.
So far, almost everything that's mentioned here seems to be OK, or have some entertainment quality.
Can't believe LoTR is mentioned. Haven't seen Gladiator yet. The others, Lost in Space, Independence day, etc..well, what did you expect? Yeah, we be bad..but there've been a lot worse.
Much easier to remember are the ones you like the best (from the fifties):
The Day the Earth stood Still
War of the Worlds
Invasion of the BodySnatchers (1950's)
Many more grade B's here that I love....
Then, in another genre, not quote SciFi:
Dr. Strangelove
Failsafe
---------Stopping here because I could go on and on---------
This was early 1970's if I remember the date correctly.
'A Bridge Too Far'
Nothing but blood and guts, they showed closeups of the guy's guts being spilled. I had to walk out of the theater. It was an all-star cast. Second to worst part of that - they had Ryan O'Neil playing a GENERAL - he looked like he was 30 years old or younger. I think Custer was the only US Army general under that age; he got demoted, though.
