Four of the largest U.S. newspaper publishers have teamed up to create an online ad-sales network, the second such partnership to be formed in the newspaper industry in recent years.

Gannett Co., Hearst Corp., the New York Times Co. and Tribune Co. are setting up the network as a stand-alone company called quadrantOne.

Quick, everyone, hop on the bandwagon and grab some ad revenue. Obviously, it helps if you have already built the traffic.

I'm out of the e-commerce biz, but I never could see where print ads would serve me as well as focused online ads. Now if I had been a large department store, my thinking would be different. I suspect a large portion of online ad revenue is generated from smaller niche companies.
