writing data to dvd drive in xp

ok, i thought this was simple, i just want to burn data onto dvd's rather than cd's as i have a lot to burn and don't want to end up with 100's of discs.

but i just can't work out how to do it!

notes:
yes i do have a dvd-rw drive in the computer! (not just a dvd player)
i have intervideo windvd creator installed

- however i don't want to burn an interactive dvd, i just want to burn files to the dvd just like with a cd

i have winxp, do i need more software? if i do, any suggestions? just something simple, literally i want to burn a couple 100 gigs of images onto discs as a back up - i already have them on 2 hard discs but i'd like these copies too.

I don't know if this is universal, but on my config I can write to a CD directly, but I have to use special software to create a DVD. Most likely some DVD software came bundled with your PC, and if not there are free packages out there.

i did get bundled software with the computer but i couldn't get it to just write data to the dvd - only to make a 'moving' dvd.

i downloaded deepburner and it didn't work - which i guess is where i got confused ... i've now downloaded burnquick which does seem to work.

That's for making compliant DVD's to be played back a o standalond DVD player.

Imgburn is nice little utility for burning all types of discs.

What was the bundle with your DVD burner? Roxio?

Their latest set of suites is more confusing than anything, but creator classic is a good fallback app.
