Jokes aside though I don't believe this ever DID happen. A politician fabricates a story, conceals any factual information "for the good of the people involved" and uses it to justify a decision that is supposed to back a bill.
Could you imagine what their birthday conversation would have gone like?

I know where you are coming from but in this case there was no bill or any other dubious reason for creating the story. I think we can take it that it is true.
Actually this is now a national news story here in the UK.
