I was going to do a survey on incentive of getting the gift which is a laptop and I was wondering opinions on each.

-Macbook. Heard great things. Bad things. What OS system does it run? Overall for working/networkig strength? 1-10?

-Sony VAIO. Never heard of it.Im a DELL user. Overall 1-10?

-HP Pavillion. OS system. Networking/working strength 1-10?

-Toshiba Satellite. 1-10?

Hi AMHarris,
Welcome to WebmasterWorld. Enjoy your time here.

I don't have much experience with the systems you suggested, but HP and Dells seems to have the better hardware.

I have a new Dell Vostro 1500 that runs great. 2GB ram, 2.20 GHz Intel Dual Core. Running XP Pro SP3. Nice machine. I went with this because XP Pro was what I wanted.

I bought a MacBook Pro for my wife for Christmas. It is lightweight the Apple applications are fun and handy. You can run Windows and Vista on it with ease. Cost, alas, is an issue: $2,000. But, I think it is the best value on the market now.

Walt Mossberg who reviews computers for the WSJ, last week gave a pretty good review to the new super-thin Dell laptop, but then said as good as it was, the Mac was still better.

Thanks guys.
I really like Dells my self, didn't realize they were running SP3, i'm running SP2, i'll have to update! but my make is the Inspiron 6000 Media Center, and the more I'm getting into the business side of the Net I looking toward a more advanced style that is business oriented in mind.
So I've heard the MacBook pro is highly rated but the incentive offer just read MacBook.
Since Sony Vaio got the best votes I'm going for that one. Thanks again bunch! happy New year!

I just bought a Dell Vostro a couple of months ago, a 1000 for £269 ex vat with upgraded screen and battery. It was cheapy cheapy but non-budget chip, dual channel RAM and S/ATA drive.

Very impressed with build quality and performance.

Although I was in Toys 'R' Us before xmas (bring on the flame) and saw for some reason an Asus mini-notebook, was only £2xx quid. It's tiny, only an 11" screen I wish I has seen this before I bought my full sized laptop!

Before you say you've never heard of them, Asus are a well respected component manufacturer, making many high-end motherboard and video cards for gaming machines.
