I have escaped depression with thoughts of taking a mini vacation!
but...
Where the heck do we (SlyGal and me) go? The only issue is cost, and we would like to get the biggest bang for the buck. Also, we would love to go somewhere new and less "touristy".
So, my question, what's a good spot to lay my hat for a weekend or maybe a week?
(My only idea so far has been Old Quebec City, and it provides one of the aspects I really enjoy about travelling...history)
I am originally from TO but live in the British Virgin Islands. You could always come vist! ;)
Try Lake Muskoka or Lake Severn. Wonderful area!
The only place I haven't been of the above is Maryland. They are all beautiful, but go to Quebec City.
It is beautiful and the feeling of the place is great. Romantic, historical. This time of year you could stand on the plains of Abraham with a cold wind in your face and feel the place. Walking through old Quebec you get that particular european feel that makes quebec and montreal so unique in the world (yes I said world).
Le moulin is gorgeous too. Very nice for a little weekend getaway. Walks through the autumn forest.
Vermont is always a great place to go a little b&b would be relaxing. Nice drive as well.
Lake Muskoka is greta too, I would say better in the summer though.
I hear Maryland is nice too (didn't want to leave it out).
I'm kinda' leaning towards Quebec. It's about a 5 hour drive, and is just so beautiful. I am, mind you, also interested in pmacs suggestion, that also looks luring.
Muskoka. What a wonderful place. My parents used to bring me there when I was just a WeeSlyGuy. There is NOTHING like autumn in Muskoka.
Vermont. I had the pleasure of driving through Vermont about 3 years ago. Never stopped in, but it looked like some of the nicest slopes I've seen. I'm thinking I should pack up the skis and head down sometime soon, I'll stop by for Hot Chocolate, okay? ;)
Maryland. One state I can truly admit to not knowing very much about, aside from recent events. It's nice in the fall? Winter?
I think I'll go with Lianes idea. The British Virgin Islands! You can expect us sometime tomorrow between 6:30 and 8:30am. I'll be the tall one, with the pasty white legs :)

(Thanks for the sticky, MacGuru)
Now I'm really starving. Do you have any idea how hard it is to get quality poutine in Vancouver? ;)
I dream about cabane a sucre, though I always left in a wheelchair. Can't walk after that much food.
Speaking of direction. I know it's faster on the highway, but if you can afford a few extra hours of driving, just dont miss the Laurentians and Lanaudière. It is still time for autumn colors in the mountains.
Here is the map.
