Some see them as a joke, a few even take them at their word, but to most of us spam e-mails that promise to "enlarge your manhood" have become an everyday pest. Simon Cox, of Radio 4's the Investigation, set out to discover who is behind them. ...

...In a bid to track down the elusive figures sending me these spam e-mails, I had to try to buy the product.

Life is not as easy as they make it out for spammers. Having spent the better part of last week sending out spam emails, imagine my surprise when I got an order for 10,000 packs of blue pills. It was all worth it. The only hitch was that the guy wanted it posted elsewhere; due diligence meant I gave him a quick call - all checked out and he explained that Lagos doesn't have any blue pills at all so he can still sell at a big profit there. In fact he was so keen on getting them that I was able to help him further by sending priority air freight... a rate on which I make almost 200% on top of the shipping I charge! However, no sooner had I put the goods in the post to Nigeria did I get the whole bleedin payment reversed apparently for 'fraud'. What I want to know is who is going to compensate me for what is now a wasted week sending out emails, the blue pills and for the stupid shipping costs to Nigeria?* My only hope is another guy from Nigeria who's politely contacted me asking for help getting some money out of the country.
I am not, in fact, an email spammer and the above is intended as satire...

Spammers are a low form of life but IMHO they are no worse than the people who work in call centres cold calling all day.

That's not marketing it is harassment.
