Hello everyone on webmasterworld.

I would like to know how to make small size PDFs. I want to make softcopies of my grandpa's old books collection into PDF files. I have installed Adobe Acrobat (not READER) and learned how to create PDF from my scanned materials, but the outcome is too large in size and has taken a lot of space in my HDD. I have 189 book with average of 220 pages each, contents both text and graphics.

I also use setting from Acrobat Distiller, but if I set it on the SMALLEST SIZE the outcome text and graphics become blurred.

Can someone please let me know what I need to do so that I can make these PDFs size as small as possible without blurring the text or graphics and still looks good when I want to print them out?

Thanks a lot,

jnimpuno

Welcome aboard jnimpuno, your best bet is probably going to be to break them down into smaller sections if it's got a lot of graphics. Make sure the graphics themselves are as fully optimized as low as possible, setting the jpg compression lower.

One thing you can try, with the Standard or Pro edition: open the document in Acrobat then select File -> Reduce File Size. This eliminates a few unnecessary objects and I've seen it bring the file size down without degrading images.
