Certainly the biggest fight since De La Hoya versus Mayweather, but a tough fight to call. My pick? Hatton in 10 by KO. I could be so wrong, Mayweather is tough to hit but I think he underestimates Hatton.

Without De La Hoya walking forward against Mayweather, there wouldn't have been a fight and nothing serious was ever landed by either fighter. I think Hatton is hungry enough to walk through whatever Mayweather can throw just to get a chance at knocking him out. Still, I think Mayweather is the best pound per pound fighter in the sport, though I hate that hackneyed phrase.

If the bout even comes close to the superb Pavlik victory over Taylor it will be well worth the PPV price. Will you be watching this Saturday?

I'll be watching real fighters instead:

Ultimate Fighter Team Serra vs Team Hughes Finale

on Spike!

I admire the athleticism of those MMA fighters, for me it just doesn't compare to the Sweet Science. MMA is a little better now since they changed the submission rules a bit but the bouts can still look like a bad bar fight.

Implying that Hatton and Mayweather aren't real fighters? Wow. ;)

Hatton on points, I think his speed will show in the end, although Mayweather is the most powerful of the two I just can't see him landing.

I think that if Hatton wins by decision it will have ot be a drubbing. Mayweather is the titleholder. If Mayweather is cocky enough, he'll stand toe to toe, and I think that's exactly what he needs to avoid doing. If he walks backwards the whole fight like he did with De La Hoya, Mayweather will win by decision.

Mayweather should win if it goes the distance. Or if Hatton cuts in an early round.

Hatton has to go in hard and look to knock him out, he is a good body puncher and should be able to do it.

It's not worth placing a bet because the odds are too low but if you think Hatton will win it's worth betting that he will become the BBC Sports Personality Of The Year on Sunday night's live vote - Hatton is second favourite currently 5/2.

I might stick 50p or so on later when I'm at home on my own computer.

The crowd could just push Hatton to win (6,000 turned up for the weigh-in) , but looking at the form it would seem Mayweather should do it.

I do hope it finishes in a KO and not scores or a disqualification.

The build up is amazing! Thankfully, it will be at an ideal time for us all in Asia to watch!

I had the right round, wrong fighter though. ;) Mayweather as always, was very sharp. Not to take anythig away from Mayweather's performance, but I really wasn't happy with Cortez and his interference. Seems he thought there was only one fighter in the ring. Hatton had to fight on the inside and Cortez seemed determined not to let that happen. Made Hatton a little desperate and desperate fighters get caught with punches.

I don't think that Mayweather will retire, he's 39-0. Ten more victories would put him on the pedestal with arguably the greatest fighter in history. Mayweather can't end up 49-0 with 43 knockouts, but tying the Brockton Brawler's win loss record would put the finishing touch on a fantastic career. Now if he would just adopt the meekness and humility that Marciano had. ;)

As for Lennox Lewis' suggestion that Hatton retire, sorry Lewis, but Hatton's defeat was more exciting than any of your victories.

I did not manage to watch the fight but I have heard it was a good fight and Hatton was just in one weight too high.

Amazing amount of hype around the whole fight though. Who is the current heavyweight champion. Normally such hype is reserved for the heavyweights.

I don't think so either, but there is no one to fight him right now. (Plus, 39-0 is just as good as 59-0 IMO)

Miguel Cotto is good, but not good enough. Nevertheless, they will fight and Mayweather will do it for a cool $10 mil plus promotion of his company. The good news is that Mayweather is still young and in 5 years many new talented boxers will emerge. Everyone of them will want to defeat the man. Look at de la Hoya, still fighitng here n'there; not for titles but for cash and name recognition. Floyd does not need any more titles...

The thing about boxing, is that a boxer with KO power always has a chance. Hatton wobbled Mayweather in the second round. I still believe, had Cortez recognized that there were two fighters in the ring that the outcome may have been different.

De La Hoya made the Mayweather fight and Mayweather never landed a single significant punch in the entire fight. He was accurate, but with tapping punches with no power behind them.

I still think Mayweather is the better boxer, currently the best pound per pound boxer in the sport although Manny Pacquiao is a fine fighter as well.

digitalghost,
maybes do not count in boxing :). Fighters get credit for heart but in the end we know what matters, and Mayweather won both fights.

Maybes never count, but I'd like to see a rematch, with a different ref.

I saw a replay, and I doubt there will ever be a rematch. I think Hatton himself knows he was a weight too high.

He was outboxed, simple as that.

I was just watching the 1919 Jess Willard (6'6" 240 lbs) fight against Jack Dempsey (180 lbs) on Youtube. Underdog Dempsey nearly killed the giant Willard. A modern ref would have called off the pounding in the first round and rushed Willard to an intensive care unit for a month.

Also recommend the famous Stanley Ketchel/Jack Johnson fight of 1908 on Youtube.

In 1915 Willard defeated Jack Johnson in 26 rounds outdoors at Havana in July. Temperature 103 degrees!

My God, how some of those boxers suffered in the ring!
