Sometimes the news just brings a smile to my hairy leather-like face. It seems this chap by the name of Darwin had disappeared back in 2002 in a kayak trip into the North Sea. Seems logical. But over the weekend he walked into a police station and claimed to remember nothing since 2000. Meanwhile, he ws photographed with his wife last year in Panama. That might explain the nice tan he has today.

Something tells me this Darwin fellow is going to have a long time to remember things.

Heard that on the news today, funny. Coincidence she cashed in his life insurance, sold their houses, and emigrated to Panama (where they were photographed) only six weeks ago.

Question is though, if he was already in Panama, and she'd already cashed his insurance in, why did he bother coming back?

Latest is that he faked his death so she would claim his life insurance and clear his debts.

Apparently, she wasn't in on the plan and he threatened her by saying he'd make sure she went down with him.

According to the Sun newspaper (in an article amusingly headlined 'The Liar, the Witch and the Wardbobe'), he was living in the building next door, where the couple had constructed a secret doorway behind 2 wardrobes with false backs. Apparently so he could sneak back for sex. Pass your own judgement on that one.

Now the police are saying they'll arrest her when she comes back to the UK, and apparently she's in Florida at the moment supposedly making her way back here.

What I still can't understand is, that if she already had the insurance money, and they were already in Panama together, why did he bother coming back?

What I think is happening now is she has turned against him for some reason, so by 'fessing up and dumping him right in it, he goes to jail, she never needs to come back.

If she wasn't in on the plan, why is there a photo floating around of the couple in Panama from last year (I think).

I must admit I most sorry for the sons, would you rather have a dead father or a live fraudster?

If she wasn't in on the plan

I meant when he originally went missing.

I agree. I would rather have a dead father. At least that way you could remember him for the great/decent man he was (assuming he was of course).

It has been alleged that he returned because the UK police had new information and were investigating the Panama connection. He was trying to bluff his way out by turning up at a UK police station and claiming that he had lost his memory and thought he might be a missing person. The wife will almost certainly be arrested when she returns to the UK, or if not will be extradited.

It's also been alleged that Google was the real detective. Someone typed the couple's names + Panama into Google images and up popped the original photograph. Why on earth did they agree to the photograph in the first place?

The interesting aspect is why was he declared dead after only 1 year when the usual legal requirement was 7 years. It appears that the police were never happy about this.

Heard on the news today that she's back! And police arrested her at Manchester airport. I hope they both get what's coming to them, for being stupid more than committing the crime!
