How Much Time Do We Spend on WebmasterWorld

You Probably Don't Want To Know!

I had this idle thought ( I am idle a lot!) how much time do we spend reading and responding to the posts on this forum.

Lets figure its takes 6 minutes to read and reply to an average post.

Take someone who has a record of 1,000 post, At 6 minutes a post he has spent
a total time of 6,000 minutes or a hourly sum of 100 hours.

Where am I headed with all this, I have no idea! Like I said its just an idle thought.

The time we spend must be balanced against the fact that what we learn makes our other activities more productive and saves us time in other areas.

Time on WebmasterWorld is not "spent", it's "invested".

(That's my story and I'm sticking to it.)

continuous refresh on the active list in between ;)

Talk about the times when a refresh brings nothing new or a post which is not at all interesting to you.

It comes in bursts. I get email notifications of new posts in a couple [webmasterworld.com]of forums [webmasterworld.com], and I get notifications of responses to my posts.

If things are a bit slow, I might trawl the "recent posts" page, and see if there is anything I can contribute, and I will occasionally ask a question [webmasterworld.com] that could use answering.

Short answer: It depends, but I don't spend inordinate amounts of time in any Internet community these days.

I come here because I know people are judged by the depth of their knowledge and not by the color of thier ties [webmasterworld.com] :)

So are you KF, just by somebody else! ;)

buckworks is right, we should all learn something here. I only spend time replying to posts when I actually have spare time.

The question should really be "How much time do we waste talking in Foo"!

.. time do we waste talking in Foo

I resemble that remark!

There is much to be learned in the Foo forum. For example, I recently learned that Google had a logo in honor of Veterans Day. My education came a day late, and I never saw the logo, but I have something to look forward to for next year. Thanks FOO!, couldn't do it without you.

KF- don't forget to factor into your idleness (um, I mean your idleness RESEARCH ;) ) that the number of posts listed does not include Foo posts. Depending on the idleness factor, the numbe rof Foo posts may even be greater than the number of "real" posts.

I use Google for searching, so I noticed. But that isn't something I'd care to learn, more something that's nice to notice pop up.

Actually I just looked through the Foo threads, I can't say there's anything in there worth learning, apart that web mastering is evidently a good trade to be in - as we all have so much time to spend on Foo!

<OT>

but you can't get a life from foo

Let's not be so hasty. My life is built entirely from foo, with a few odd jobs to keep people from thinking I'm worthless foo. Hey, I try. And the life is nice :-)

i generally write lower case but i specifically meant "Foo", as in the forum rather than the general "foo".

In Spanish would Foo be a male or female noun?... or has it been completely
neutered?...KF

No, that would have been the neighbor's cat [webmasterworld.com].

The ones who are actively involved in foo, I see them as people spending time on a company lobby talking about last nights game.

But, yes they have pretty much finished their job for that day. :)

I think I need help....have started to become a forum addict!

It starts back when you're sitting in a hotel being idle....or working from home and feeling bored with the work......then have to start rationalising how much time I spend....good thing am going into the office tomorrow.

I used to spend a lot more time here than I do now. At the moment, my free time on the Internet is mostly filled with looking up any Mike Huckabee news I can find and checking the polls! ;)
