When do you cut your fingernails?

They're very close to what you're doing, physically

I've just cut mine, because they were starting to clack the key surfaces on my keyboard. I suppose there are other things that trigger a timely trim (as opposed to an organised system).

One of my contracts is working on ATM's. They are all extremely dirty inside, one was next to a bus stop on a one way street, it spent all day sucking in diesel fumes.

Anyway, doing things like that leaves them very dirty, so usually at least once a week as I don't like having dirty nails!

I play guitar a lot, so tend to cut my left nails more often than my right.
Toe nails are another story!

I can't stand long nails anywhere. As soon as I see white, I start snipping.

I file mine. I have an old mug on my desk where I keep pens, etc. I also keep a little smooth file in there and I use it to keep my nails tidy.

(It's not a ladies nail file. It's a small engineer's file. I am a macho man!)

I have always thought nail-biting revolting.

But I tear my nails off with glee.

Same here, tbear. What about your right index finger? I play a heavy amount of metal, meaning a lot of speed-pickin' with my hand snuggled against the strings (palm muting). As a result over the years, my right index nail bed, on its right-hand side, has developed a slight concavity from the constant abrasion of nickel-wound string filing down fingernail.

Since there's at least three players in this thread, I present my...

Metal Guitarist Tip o' the Day: When in doubt, speed-pick a muted low open E and you'll be fine. ;)

While macho, you're also low-brow, BDW. I - nose in air - use the diamond-coated file on my Swiss Army knife! :)

Not so much the left hand, but when you drop the pick and try to do some acoustic finger-picking, the obnoxious CLANK you get when the thumbnail hooks on one of the strings says it's time to buzz-saw those girlie-claws off. :-)

At this point, I usually see grooves in the nails of the left, so yeah, guess I'll trim the nails on that one too.

When your wife smacks you on the back of the head in the middle of the night and tells you you just gashed her leg - it's time to do the toenails.
