The scariest one that I have recently watched is Pole Reversal. If I understand it right over the next two hundred year there is a strong possibility that the North Pole will gyrate to the south and the South Pole will go north.
Will other spots on the globe become the poles or will it become a complete reversal of the present poles? Will this happen in increments over millions of years or more quickly than that?
What will be some other consquents of this action, other than having to learn to say "Gd Day Mate" and how to throw some shrimp on the barbie.
I think I already have the beer thing down pat!...KF

What you mention about pole reversal was probably the PBS show NOVA, "Magentic Storm".
[pbs.org...]
The science seems solid, and if true it will make the Y2K scare of 2000 look like a hiccup. A complete, one time reversal would be easy to deal with (relatively), compared to the back and forth fluctuations the theory predicts will occur as the "reversal" settles.
By the way what would a 2 foot raise in the sea level do to all those dredged up islands there in Dubai?...KF
I don't believe anybody has talked about this issue in public. That is either because they don't want us the public to know about it (which is a good thing in a way) or they are not much affected.
Mama Earth will be a lot less hospitable in coming years. I don't think we'll blow her up... she'll die of neglect.
I forget if it was all of them but at least one of them was a past member of the IPPC panel who left. They all agreed the earth was indeed warming which I think is pretty clear but their contention was that there is no conclusive evidence that we are the cause.
I'll offer some of the main points brought up that I felt were a little disturbing.
1. The scientist that was a member of the panel left because as he stated any dissenting view would be ignored by the panel and not even discussed.
2. The panel is not only made up of scientist but members of Greenpeace, Sierra Club etc. Any documentation regarding global warming that any of these groups have come anywhere near becomes null and void in my opinion.
3. The dissenting scientist who had left had his name included in the report as if he signed off on it. It was removed but only after he threatened suit.

And probably the most amusing...

4. I haven't seen the Al Gore movie myself but apparently one of the more dramatic scenes is when he is at a podium with a big graph behind him depicting the amount of CO2 and the temperature changes in the earth. Whereever there was a spike in the CO2 there was spike in temperature. This would lead you to believe that rising CO2 is going to cause the earth to warm.
What they fail to point out is that the CO2 begins to rise after the temperatures begin to rise which instead would lead you to believe it was the warming of the earth that has caused the CO2 to rise which of course wouldn't fall inline with their beliefs.
When Al Gore was asked about this he failed to comment.

Who to believe? I don't know, what I do know is you need to get both the radical environmentalists and big business out of the picture and let the scientists do their work to come to a conclusion. Until that point I won't believe anything coming from either side.

I saw something similar years ago, the north and south poles gain ice and snow but don't lose it. Since it gathers off-ceneted to the Earth's rotation, causing the whole planet to wobble. It gets worse and worse until centrifugal force takes over and the entire crust literally slides on the mantle so that the north and south poles are now at the equator. Latitude becomes longtitude and vice versa. Some scientists did believe that it did happen (10,000-100,000 years ago) and could happen again. Yes, this means Antartica could be the warmest place on earth.
As for global warming, the earth, for as long as we've known, has gone though natural warming and cooling periods. We're no where near the warmest ever, in fact, 150 years ago the planet had a mini-ice age so it is expected to have a warming period. Heck, they found tropical plan fossils in Greenland!
....hmmm "Save the cheerleader.....save the world"
They only saved one of them.
Natural disasters are a part of life. There are a number of forums on polar reversal...........but when it does happen (since we're overdue) - do we call the North Pole the South Pole and vice versa?
It is interesting about the prediction of when it will happen but when a magnet flips it will be very quick.
