My kids like the beef skewers that come when we order a poo-poo platter at our local Chinese restaurant. The skewers are served over a little round pot that has flames coming out of the top. I have a recipe for the beef skewers but I don't know how to order the pot. The restaurant where we used to order the platter went out of business so I can't ask them.

I want to order a pot for at home. But I can't figure out what it is called. Does anyone know?

It is Sterno, and you can get the pseudo "hibachi" with the tray for the pu-pu platter. Amazon has them as a combo

Sterno is the stuff they used to put in those pots years ago. Dangerous stuff as I recall, something like napalm. Slow burning and very hot.

I see sterno has a website that says its been around for 100 years!

In ethnic vernacular that would be called a dreck fresser but that's another story. It's actually pu-pu and I believe it has Hawaiian origins.

Personally, I'd get one of those real cast-iron hibachis (they're very cheap)to use when weather allows, to just grill the stuff on skewers. They're also incredible for cooking hot dogs and skirt steak and you can make yummy kebabs with the meat marinated in a yogurt-based marinade. AND paper wrapped chicken (in foil).

Thanks, Marcia. That is what I wanted.

If you had kids--especially boys--it would be called the poo-poo platter.

Just be careful with the fuel. Wouldn't want anything bad to happen [cbc.ca]. :)
