How Much Time Do You Waste On The Internet?

Where does the time go?

We all know that the first thing we do is check for new orders, then look at the stats. Piddle around with the sites, then send and answer some emails.

I am not a gamer so I don't go there.

Then I think I will look at some of the forums and see what happening.

When my wife wants to know what I am doing I tell her that I am looking for
some highly technical information to cure a problem on one of the sites.

What I am really doing is reading the Foo section and trying to think of a witty reply to some of the recent post. Then I drift on to some of the less important forums. ;o)

After awhile I glance up at the clock and see(Gasp!)three hours have gone by!
No wonder my earnings are in the toilet!

Is this an addiction? If so is there any treatment or cure for it?!

If there are any fellow addicts out there please help me before its too late!

Most of my "work" day is checking on various forums like this one, checking earnings, checking e-mail, etc. Very little in the way of "publishing new pages", etc. I really should do more "real work". I've got a list two pages long of things to do but I don't feel like doing it :)

I waste at least a few hours a day on the Internet. The way I see it is I could be a bum watching TV all day and not learn anything or spend time here and possibly learn something :)

I'm where you are right now, King, but I'm ending a project and getting ready to start another.

But, be careful in driving yourself too much. With the computer, it's possible to work 24/7 and "get things done" just as it's possible to goof-off 24/7 with the help of a computer.

Weirdly, I think many need to embrace boredom, stop trying to be so "engaged" all of the time. Relax. Find a balance.

OMG K.F. thank you for posting this, I thought I was a major goof off. I make it a habit to catch myself at not more than an hour, and try not to pop in every day. I have pared myself down to one hobby site and this one.

My problem is I always see something to learn in solving problems, someone asks, "how would I do this?" and I say self, yeah, how WOULD you do that? So I begin piddling with it.

My daily mantra, one I have to drive into my head EVERY TIME I sit down:

"If I start 'researching' I'll never get ANYTHING done!"

Half the time I'm afraid I contribute more to this site than I do to my own.

I'v become much better at the this as the sites took off. My average day on the pc looks like this, other than scheduled breaks when I surf and answer the odd post.

1.Check for new orders/imports
2.Read and respond to enquiries
3.Update / Develop sites
4.Email & post the things i'm stuck on
5.Read emails & check forum replies
6.Phone for help!
7. GOTO 1

Is this an addiction?

Yep. Its also called parkinsons law, work expands to fill the space available.

If so is there any treatment or cure for it?!

Set realistic annual goals, spend 1 day a week planning how to achieve them and go on a time management course to help you make it happen :)

This is wierd. I thought I was the only one who spent time on this site. I have a full time job. When I get off I just want to know whats new on Foo!
Embarrassingly relieved!

Foo does take a lot of time, but I do try and answer some useful questions too, mainly in JavaScript and Perl.

You're absolutely right there weeks, my computer gets used for work, and goofing. When you get bored of work, have a goof for half an hour. Weather it's a couple of games of freecell, or in my case as I am a gamer too, spreading someone's guts across a wall.
