I remember them. I actually was listening to some remixes of some songs off of Boss Drum on the way to work. Great album.

They had a pretty successful hit here in the states with their song "Move Any Mountain".

Since the original posting question I dusted off the old LP and listened to it today, but it doesn't really hold the same musical weight to my ears as it did back around 1991 or so when it came out.

Not bad, but they are no Depeche Mode.

I kind of ignored the first batch of electro pop...I was in a band with a brass section at the time and we were doing a sort of punk/accoustic thing...sort of going in the opposite direction...so I was listening to people like Beevamp with more of a jazz feel

I couldn't ignore Cabaret Voltaire and the original Human League though

I've been in the Electro-EBM-Industrial thing, and the 90s (and late 80s) had excellent bands that influenced (one way or another) a lot of today's music.
Skinny Puppy (my all-time favorite)

Front Line Assembly
Foetus (in all his utterly distasteful combinations)
Einsturzende Neubauten

Others not-so-industrial:
Dead Can Dance
In the nursery

And Pop:
Yaz (or Yazoo) and later Erasure (Vince Clark)

I formed a band in the early 90s, Deus ex Machina we called it. Harsh industrial was our line of work.
To my surprise (and many others for that matter) we released 2 albums! :)

made some wonderful stuff...we used to use the same studio and the same engineer, Pete McGee...who, incidentally, was also the engineer on the Mac and Katie Kissoon version of Chirpy Chirpy Cheep Cheep

Look, there have been millions of albums produced in the past several years. Ok...maybe tens of thousands.

But there is only one group that still chills me.

U2

There was Boy, then October, then Unforgettable Fire, then WAR (My favorite), then some short discs...then Joshua Tree, then Rattle-n-Hum (lame), then Achtung Baby (excellent), then Zoopropa? (WHAT were they thinking?), then some other album that was not much better than Zooropa, then the latest--->All that you can't leave behind. (Which is an ok to pretty good album.)

The 'monkey song' on the latest is my favorite. (ok-'Love Comes Tumbling" off of that short album-is still my all-time favorite.)

But don't get me started on how 'Tears for Fears' was under-rated...

and you'd have thought that with all that recording done they'd have found the time to write a second tune

seriously...I think they were stunning for a while...but they haven't moved on as far as a lot of other bands and they don't really get to me any more...and if, like me, you are a musician who enjoys experimenting with an album by trying to come up with different versions of the songs on it...then U2 are a dead loss...if you cut the songs down to basics there really isn't much to work with

Wash it all off, Bedrock and Sick Man just to name a few of my favorites! Great musician in my book.

As for U2, well, they never really got to me, although I must say Achtung Baby is one fine album.
