This thought occoured to me in a discussion with a friend of mine.

We speak in English. Thus when we think, or at least when I think, it's in English. You think 'I'd could really do with a jam doughnut right about now'.

If I became fluent in another language, would I begin to think in that language, or would I constantly translate my own thoughts? Maybe one of you guys can answer that one.

But how about this, before we learn to talk, what language do we think in?

Thanks Habtom. This is one good place to argue the point that langusge is really reflexsive. We don't really use the 'brain' to talk.No no not the learned communication that we learn at school. I believe we talk at different levels. Does that make sense?

this topic makes me think of different types of communication

I can speak php, actually talk it out, though you have to connect parts of it using other words as it is not meant to be spoken

I communicated with my daughter from when she was 1 or a bit less using sign language though I was speaking english at the same time. She learned the signing alphabet long before she could recognize english letters. Though this all helped her to learn english, though she knows some french and spanish too.

Her brain was learning to communicate and didn't use any language yet
