Lived with insomnia since I was 13, Melatonin and Kava Kava usually have me sleeping within minutes after hitting the pillow. I recall seeing a thread about sleeping difficulties but am too tired to look it up. G'night folks.
backrubs
LOL! Love them, but prefer women! Unfortunately, I haven't yet met a woman yet who has the strength to dig deep into those shoulder and back muscles. ;)
On another note, I sometimes have problems just getting to sleep. Can find myself laying in bed for hours before I nod off. I've tried many different things but there are only two that I follow that seem to work for me. 1st is daily excercize. I get up early and run 4 to 5 miles on weekdays - helps add to being physically tired at night. 2nd, No code work within 2 hours of going to bed. If I do, I find myself working out functions, loops, and what-have-you while my eyes are closed. Not very conducive to sleep though I have done some of my best work at those moments!
As for Nyquil, Sominex, et al - they don't work for me. I have found that a cup of "Throat Coat" tea or a warm cup of milk (finished 30 mins before bed) work rather nicely but I think it's more psychological.
And I hope no one minds if I add this but S.. is a nice precursor to sleep as well.
It's one thing to rub someone's back. It's another thing to know that there are surface muscles and deep muscles in the back, and that you can do different strokes to massage each.
A good massage will put your girlfriend/wife into such a relaxed state that they will fall asleep easily.
