Anyone at all?
Im aware of the p!ss up beast as well.... :(
1) Drinking the beer in the company of people whose eyes don't glaze over when you talk to them about what you do
2) Plying various SE reps and WebmasterWorld vets with said free beer, and prising little gems of info out of them
3) Getting to network with people whose secretary you would usually have trouble getting in contact with
[webmasterworld.com...]
Thing is I am UK based so it would not be difficult to get to. Next time me thinks.
Seems to have a theme, anyway I'll be going to the next one.
Sure there's a socialising side to it, in fact I'm looking very much forward to meeting people I share a good part of my life with.
But apart from that I expect this to become the best business event I ever participated in...

Alas, it would be nice to have something a bit closer to home here in New England.

We're at peak foliage season as I write this so I HAVE to agree with you! :) But even without the foliage, it is - and yes I'm biased.
I've learned I have to describe what I do in 5 words or less, otherwise people lose interest. Right now I've only got it down to 6 word and I think that's too long, but I'm having trouble getting it even shorter - "I sell stuff on the Internet." ;)
I won't be going to Pubcon, but I do hope there's a Barcon this year.

My employer will shell out a grand or two to send people to SES now and then, but not half that for a trip to the pub:)

Yes, yes it would be - especially if it were here in Vermont at this exact time next year! Foliage, mountain biking, micro-brews, and hearty food. *sigh*
I've never been to one of these events so I'm curious what it would take to put one together. Brett? Anyone?
Speaking of hearty NE food, lorax, do you have any idea how one might go about making a boiled dinner vegetarian without ruining it? Even before I was vegetarian I always skipped out on eating the meat part, but since all the flavors blend between everything, I figure you probably need to add some sort of spicing to the thing to replace the corned beef. I don't know how to corn beef, so I don't know what to try.
