The first compact disc was produced exactly 25 years ago in a factory in Germany after years of development by Philips and Sony.

The first commercial CDs pressed were The Visitors by Abba and a recording of Herbert von Karajan conducting the Alpine Symphony by Richard Strauss.

Yes, EB, I understand that so well.

I was so excited to get my first CD player to replace the vinyl record player and compact cassette. W-Hey!

What I still find hard to fathom is that CD players are only recently being fitted to cars, and that their shelf life in a car may be cut short by MP3 player capability.

Wow I did not even know people still used CD's. Have not bought one since like 96.

I'm slowly starting to phase out the use of tapes in favour of MP3 storage. I can't stand CDs and they can't stand even the slightest wear. Of course, DVDs are much worse...
