Are you Awaiting The Arrival Of The Final Book?

I have to admit, I'll be standing in line at midnight to get my copy of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. In the literary world, there's never been anything like the anticipation that surrounds the arrival of the last book in this series.

And for the real question? Which two major characters die in the finale? And did you know that psychologists have already set up support centers for children that have difficulty dealing with character deaths?

I admit it too, I got totally hooked from the first book, although book five was a struggle, book six was worth the effort. There's a huge amount of hype, but I expect this one to be Rowling at her best. I'm not going out at midnight, but I have had the book on order since February from Amazon, so I've still got a few more days to wait (I ordered it from the UK, so probably about a week).

Who will die? Who knows, but I approach with trepidation any headline on the web which mentions the book, but I guessed that I could trust you not to reveal the ending, unlike the few sites with leaked copies. :)

There was a piece on the news last night about the extraordinary security in place to safeguard the books. I was right in the middle of something and didn't catch it all but what I did hear was amazing.

Old con to new con:
"So, whatcha in for pal?"
New con: "Knocked over a Harry Potter delivery truck."

Saw the film, first time Id had anything to do with the series, why did I bother?

Film was slated in the Telegraph as well

Harry WHO!? Potter? Wasn't he the Colonel in M*A*S*H played by Harry Morgan from the old Dragnet series?

Well worth waiting for the final book; absolutely amazing!

There were so many bits where you'd have thought "how's she going to get around that without cheating?" ... and she did it every time.

I was a little stunned by the new film (Phoenix) - but with a 800-odd-page book, the director had a few tough choices to make (most movies arise out of comic books or short stories, these days - and don't have to explain four prequel back stories to explain!).

I'm sure I'll get to enjoy it after a couple more viewings; I've already found Neville, Luna and the thestrals to be a major plus!

For those with no magic in their souls ... Slytherin has a place for you!

And there's the usual Rowling message for SEO in both book 7 and film 5 ... there's no substitute for doing it 'right' ;)

Film was slated in the Telegraph as well

Of course. And I'll bet the critics room conversation went like this;
"Who hates Harry Potter?"
"Me, Sir"
"OK, take these free tickets, go see it, and find something scathing to say!"
"Consider it done, Sir"

The brilliance of J.K Rowling`s creation cannot be appreciated by watching the movies alone. The movies pretty much lose all the humour in the books.

Great final book. As I mentioned in another post, the ending didn`t really have any surprises imo.

Film? I haven't seen a movie yet that has matched the book. Give the books a go. Given the length of some of her books, the movies are like CliffsNotes in comparison.

No real surprises in the ending for me either. Thought the last chapter a bit short as well but fleshing out the last chapter would have doubled the length of the book. ; )

Yes great read. No surpises in the end for me either - not even coming out of the pensives ;-)

I think she shouldn't have done the last chapter tough - I know, I know it was to close the story - but I think leaving it a bit of a blurry ending might have been better. But I still loved the book - no question there.

I think she wrote the epilogue to protect herself; neat bit of closure for her.

But we can still campaign for a prequel - we have enough references to the dark Lord's rise to fill half a book - we just need the other half to complete the epic tale!
