Funny, how one does forget!
20 years in the States
it took a client wishing me happy Bastille day
to remember what today is.
I was FR born, among WebmasterWorld members not born in the USA
does the same thing happen?

Happy Bastille Day! By the way thanks for the help circa 1776
so we could have a July the Fourth!

Would've been awkward to skip directly from July 3rd to the 5th.
So, out of curiosity ... what did people do before 1776? Must have been mighty confusing. Summer business mess.

Well, for calendar users ... knowing what day it is can take care of itself.

Non-calendar users ... Well, I don't think most WebmasterWorld members who live in France had a problem with it either ... ;)

So, now, for what you really asked ... WebmasterWorld not born in the USA, but who live in the USA -- do they (we) forget holidays and other "special" days from our native country? Well, I think that happens. I have personally not had a problem with major Swedish holidays. Then again -- I have not lived in the US for 20 years either.

But I wouldn't doubt it happens, and is quite common. It's easy to forget when commerce doesn't bombard you with holiday specific "stuff" for weeks.

You 100% zeroed on it!
Commerce is major factor in keeping events on the front page.

... aside from the apparent bias (in the USA) toward Irish and Mexican holidays, of course ;)

pseudo-holidays that are recognized primarily due to promotional efforts by the alcoholic beverage industry...

All those rednecks with their DUIs should keep you hopping for the next

Interesting perception. If I relied on rednecks with funds sufficient to pay my fee I'd be broke.

>>rednecks

Hmm, I have a particular interest in the word 'redneck', and perceptions about rednecks.

The 'redneck' that lives directly across the road from me works from sunup to sundown, six days a week. He owns several thousand acres of productive land, hundreds of head of cattle and I can just barely make out the roof of his house over the tops of the corn stalks in his field.

He never fails to wave when he drives by, or when he rides by on his dilapidated bike. It's rumored that his daddy has enough ready cash to buy the closest three counties and I never see him in anything but a Ford F250 that's seen better days unless he's in his new Mercury on the way to church. He's 72 and is still running a dairy farm.

Where I'm from, they fit the definition of the word redneck. They're also referred to as 'good people'.

Down the road a ways, there's a 2.9 million dollar home wherein resides a 29 year-old college grad, he lives there with his parents, has no job, and recently acquired his 4th DUI.

All is never as it seems... ; )

Of course it could be the rather large population of Irish and Mexicans that inhabit the U.S. Especially as compared to our French population.
