My brothers ex wife is insane. She is determined on trying to find something incriminating on him and has hired some private eye company, the owner is ex KGB ( no lie). Our network has gone slow and we have a hunch they are trying to look at mails with a packet sniffer. I know detection is hard but is it possible?

Crush,
Detection is indeed possible to find out if someone is using a packet sniffer on your network. As its already been mentioned before, but not directly, are you using a wireless setup? Or is everything wired? If it is indeed wireless, you may have to look at the benefits of having a wireless network as oppossed to not having it. Regardless if you brother has anything to hide (I'm presuming he doesn't) the network lag is the issue in and of itself. Is there an encryption being used if wireless networking is enabled? Is the office a secured facitlity? Does the office complex have security guards driving around? I did a search on google for
detect packet sniffer

and found some results. There was a trial software out there, not sure if its any good, but also some links pointing to how you can look at it forensicly with DNS lookups and such...
Hope that helps.
