We are listening to more and more music with the newest Tabke ... she loves all sorts of tunes, from Neil Diamond to Adam Ant to the Rolling Stones.

We only have a few CDs of true children's music though, and are looking for more.

We have some Trout Fishing in America, plus a compilation CD by mostly pop artists called "For the Kids."

Just downloaded Raffi's "Baby Beluga" and lovin' it.

What music do you recommend for kids? Not only that they'll like but that won't drive you bonkers?

I was brought up on The Beatles, and still love them. It's a bit earlier than the Stones but if she likes them then give it a go!

goody two shoes!

my kids liked disco biscuits and beastie boys (had to be careful with lyrics here sometimes).
i'll try to dig up the more "baby" oriented music we used to play.
i've heard some cool kid-oriented stuff by bobby mcferrin...

Wait until you're on a four hour drive and for the third hour of the trip you daughter is asking for Baby Beluga or else... lol.

Find a Music Together [musictogether.com] class near you before it's too late and your daughter's too old for the program. You receive a CD with each session. My daughter went since she was six months old. Took her to a children's concert a month ago with her best friend, and watching her reaction to the music versus her friend who didn't go to Music Together was like watching someone who understands the language versus someone who does not get it.

The CDs can be purchased from the website I think, however you'll both get hours of play out of it if she goes to the sessions and learns all the hand signs and whatnot that go with the songs. The songs are wonderfully entertaining for both children and adults, and don't end up grating on you as much. Some of the songs are traditional songs you may not have ever heard but are so delightful you'll wonder why you never had.

How many two and three year olds do you know who enjoy singing Molly Malone?

Martinibuster, thanks for the suggestion! We're already doing Kindermusik ... I think that's similar to Music Together. She LOVES it - she's the youngest in the class and she's a total ham.

Raffi++

My kid listened to a lot of Sharron, Lois & Bram. When she got a little older I actually found some club/dance music that had no real lyrics that was nice.

For really long car rides with a bunch of kids nothing beats books on cd.

The Wiggles (okay, maybe that one doesn't quite qualify as one that won't drive you bonkers :-) )
