The Republic of Elbonia is a fictional country from Scott Adams' comic strips Dilbert and Plop: The Hairless Elbonian. It is an extremely poor, fourth-world country that has recently abandoned Socialism.

Not including Montenegro, which became the youngest independent state in Europe just over a year ago, and Timor Leste, which won its independence from Indonesia a few years back, I think the country I learned about it most recently which was a surprise to me (because I had never heard of it before) is Palau.
I think it would be fun to have a sweepstake on what will be the world's next state. At the moment Montenegro is the youngest state in the world, right? (Someone correct me if I'm wrong). So which territory will win state independence next?
Faroe Islands? East Kurdistan? Kosovo? Scotland? Transdniestria? Abkhazia? North Cyprus?
Any other candidates?
Seems a programmer long ago stuck 4 non-existent countries in the cart form as a joke.
The hilarious thing was that the only place you could find those countries was on many different commerce shopping carts.
So much for copyrighting!

Just curious- what "countries" are they?
I don't recall. This was 7 years ago. They were just made up names like "bongo-bongo land." That cart is about defunct and the sites I just looked at today only ship to the U.S, or the U.S. and Canada. The cart developer admitted that the names weren't real; he also said that I was the only one who ever noticed it.
A lot of stupidity goes into those country lists. You often see N. Korea and Cuba in U.S. drop down lists. Many full lists include several uninhabited places such as Bouvet Island in the far South Atlantic.
