Im thinking of going out there with a friend at the end of the year and apart from forums cant find a great deal of useful information.
Was generally wondering how much it would cost to rent a home for few months. Internet prices seem to be inflated alot. Also general day to day living costs just averge meals and drinks.
Thanks Guys
As far as prices go, the answer is "it depends". If you're happy with simple accomodation and Thai food, it's very cheap; the more luxurious the accomodation, the more expensive it gets, especially in popular resorts in the "high season" (December - February); and "Western" style food is not that much less expensive than it is in the West.
Im off out there for at least a year as you know as you replied in the Adsense forum, cheers for the Good Luck message.
For 30,000.00 THB - 476.00 GBP a month you can live reasonably well. That would include a nice apartment with a/c and Sky TV. Going out twice a week for a good drink and eating out in a restaurant twice a week to. The rest of the time there are supermarkets that sell very inexpensive food (lots of western food also)
You can even eat from street vendors for just 50p a meal, ive heard the food is surprisingly good but I wouldn't eat the meat myself as you don't know what it really is!
For day trips and travel cost's around the country (if you plan to move around) obviously you would need more then what i have suggested. It all depends on what you want to do when your there.
If you go have a great time, i shall be there in 2 weeks, can't wait :-)
Renting a house in Bangkok can be anywhere from 6,000 Baht - to many hundreds of thousands a month.
If you want high quality small serviced appartments. Budget around 45,000.
As for food etc, it is very reasonably priced and as with the aparments you can eat a meal for 20 Baht or go to a 5 star restaurant and even that won't break the bank (most of the time - there are a few exceptions).
Anything more specific?
like medical treatment - is it good/expensive? Where do you go when ill?
Bangkok has some of the best hospitals in Asia. Bumrungrad is the best in my view and can compete with five star hotels for their services and quality.
Another is Samitivej.
Medical costs are extremely low which is why Medical Tourism is booming. Bumrungrad was the first hospital in Asia to have ISO 9001.

Is it busy? Is it clean? Do the customers look like local Thais and not a bus load of tourists?
Some of the street food is amazing and the best quality Thai food you will find anywhere. Carry a little phrase book around and you will quickly get the hang of things.
If that does not work, look around at other peoples food, when you spot something that looks good point at it, order, sit down and wait. Enjoy.
All kidding aside, Thais are very friendly and warm people (both genders). It should be easy to make some friends while you're there and they will be happy to show you around, show you to the best/cheapest local eateries, and introduce you to all kinds of wondereful food.
Especially in Bangkok, you can find just about any type of food to eat (usually cooked by ethnic chefs)- just walk around. One night when I was there, I had no idea what I wanted to eat, so I decided to just meander around until I got hungry and found something interesting. After a few twists and turns, I found myself in an area with several Persian restaurants. I tried several things I'd never heard of, had a fabulous meal, and probably paid less than US$6.
get used to drink way more even if you dont sweat or you will get the bangkok tiredness me and a couple of other farangs have/had.
Can foreigners buy property there - what are prices like for an apartment in Bangkok?
Foreigners can own a condo. Prices go from reasonable to duplex apartments with semi-see through sides private swimming pool on every balcony.
Also, re the poster above I think he/she is meaning drink lots of water. Of course you can drink lots of beer or otherthings as well which will also make you tired, but do drink lots of water.
This year is gearing up to be a little hotter than normal I think.
My only question is why wait until the end of the year?
You can take a look at This Forum [thaivisa.com] as there is lots of information about all aspects of life in Thailand. Be aware! They don't suffer fools on that forum (not that you are one of course) so don't take it to heart if someone flames you.
