The results of an IDC (technology research firm) study to assess the amount of digital information floating around the world are nothing short of mind-boggling. The IDC researchers found, for the first time - there is so much digital information cascading around the globe that there is not enough storage space to hold all of it. As per this research, the world generated nearly 161 billion gigabytes - meaning 161 exabytes of digital information last year - which is equivalent to almost 3 million times all the information contained in all the books ever written to date.
That figure includes anything digital like photos, videos, e-mails, Web pages, instant messages, phone calls... if you can store it, there simply isn't enough room anymore. I know that feeling all too well.
