"The sending of emails of a sexual nature could earn the sender a place on the s_x offenders' register under changes to existing legislation that came into force today.

An order has amended the Sexual Offences Act of 2003 to make it possible for offences which are not primarily sexual in nature to be punishable by a sexual offences prevention order (SOPO)."

wow. Brings a whole new meaning to "no sex please, we're British"

On a serious note. This should be a welcome move, as it does seem to have been put in place for nuisance calls, and the much more serious offences.

Will it make any difference though? Hopefully to people in the UK, but for those sending into the UK I doubt it would deter them.

Anything that helps to curb some of the ghastly things the net can be used for is a good thing in my view.

There was a similar case here in the UK last year. I think it may have actually been in Scotland. As I recall someone was charged and successfully prosecuted for showing a female colleague an obscene video on a mobile phone.

>I fear for England.

I feared for England 15 years ago, and escaped as soon as I could!

Maybe I'm just getting old.....but, today's generation do seem to lack common sense.....yet, I seem to remember my Dad saying that 20 years ago also!.......who the heck knows!

Maybe the World remains in flux and as we get older we can't change to match its current configuration?

I see no hope for the future of our people if they are dependent on the frivolous youth of today, for certainly all youth are reckless beyond words. When I was a boy, we were taught to be discrete and respectful of elders, but the present youth are exceedingly wise and impatient of restraint.

ytswy....thanks for that......2800+ years and we ain't learned much yet!

It tells me that we are All heading in the wrong direction.....but, changing that will most likely take another 2800+ years!

So you think this sort of stuff is acceptable?

If someone sent your kids a letter with offensive material inside wouldn't you want something done about it?

If one of your acquaintances mailed you offensive pornographic material wouldn't you start to have your doubts about them?

Assuming that you would then what's the difference with email? A lot of people think that they can do what they like with email, but they can't and we must learn to abide by the laws of decency.
