Yes, I was completely shocked myself. The autopsy is scheduled for Friday (tomorrow).

I was never a fan of Anna Nicole Smith, but for some reason, her death hit me like a ton of bricks.

Very sad.
And so too was the death of so many people across this globe today of AIDS, starvation and wars.

I don't find it that suprising.

Did you ever watch her show? I caught it one time not realizing what I was watching. That show alone probably took off 20 years. Matter of lifestyle.

Personally I find this [news.bbc.co.uk] far more impossible to comprehend ..as I presume alfawolf7 does..

But..maybe it depends on your conditioning ..;-)

Beware of maya ..

I never saw her show, nor do I know her but it is sad all the same. I wish her family the best.

Interesting how a thread about someone who's famous only for the huge amount of weirdness in her life has become a vehicle to discuss global pain, pestilence, starvation and the depths of depravity to which humans can fall.

She always stood out in a world of skinny and meager models.

Her role model died at 36. She wasn't meant to be 40.

I think her role model actually had talent.

Let's see, this week at least a dozen soldiers died in Iraq to keep gas prices under $3 making the total number of US troops killed more than several times every single person you attended high school with, dozens of innocent Iraqis dying every day, there's a full-on genocide going on in Darfur and Zimbabwe, but a woman who probably never worked an honest day in her life and probably OD'ed gets national news?

Since she was a widely known person and it's a recent event I'd say: Yes it's newsworthy.

probably never worked an honest day in her life

I met an honest stripper in Texas. She (Anna) also laid claim to a chunk of cash that was more than most of us could ever imagine. She did what every other girl she worked with wants to do, she struck it rich and got her 15 minutes of fame. I think she'll end up becoming a folk hero with songs, annual parades and eventually her own holiday.

the floats are going to be great!

She was a porn model! And her real name was Vickie Lynn Hogan. What's all the fuss about? Hardly a role model for my daughter <snip>.

Sounds like murder. The former stepson she was battling in court over the billionare's money died on Tuesday, two days prior to Anna Nicole. [foxnews.com...]

Now the paternity suit for the billion dollar baby.

Movie rights, anyone?

Between her and James Brown estate, this should keep plenty of lawyers happy and well paid for several years.

Screwier yet is Zsa Zsa's husband the "Prinz."

"Mr von Anhalt was born Robert Lichtenberg, the son of a German policeman. He bought his title of prince after being adopted by a bankrupt daughter-in-law of the last kaiser."

Why does TV keep referring to him as "Frederic Prinz von Anhalt."

Finally, last night, some news babe asked him what he was "Prinz" of. Not much apparently.

How could anyone be surprised by her death given her reputation as a consumer of massive quantities of intoxicants.

The only thing i surpised about is the fact that Courtney Love has out-lived her.

Then how do you explain Keith Richards and Ozzy Osbourne? Not hard-core addicted enough?

heeh.

I just found this surprising that she died, especially with reading so much about her in the news lately albeit drama based, but still. Since I'm a youngin', 33 years old, I can't remember when Maryilyn Monroe or James Dean died, (and please don't read into that that I'm comparing her to them, just using them as an example) but I can imagine the shock to be similar.

This is one of the more thoughtful takes on the media's take on Smith, somewhat out of left field, from Bill Tammeus:
The truth is that our prurient, Jerry Springer-like interest in Anna Nicole Smith is precisely what we should expect of ourselves because of what religion sometimes tells us about the human condition.
