404, but found the article here:
[news.bbc.co.uk...]

An Aberdeen woman who asked for her bank statement was sent those of 75,000 other customers.

Stephanie McLaughlan, 22, was shocked when Halifax Bank of Scotland (HBOS) sent her the unexpected financial details by mistake.

I've written (by real old fashioned paper and pen) to HBOS numerous times to get my address changed. They are still sending statements and credit cards to the wrong address!

Why the heck can't they provide an online method of changing address? I can transfer millions via their Internet portal to anywhere I wish, but, I can't change my address?

In these days of identity theft it is almost a joke that any bank deals with customers in this way. BUT, they all do.......I have exactly the same problem with Barclay's!

The British Banking system sucks when it comes to simple things!

Yes but when you do finally get round to going to your branch to change that adress. If anything like mine you'll be shocked at how easy it is.

Signature and two bills.
I pointed out how easy it would be to fake the bills with super dooper technology.
The nice woman behind the counter told me that they have my signature on record so they would know if was fake.
I gave in and ignored the fact that its on every check I give, bank card, credit card etc etc.

My signature varies more than a snowflake.

I live in Florida (been here for 12+ years). I'm not likely to be going to a branch of HBOS or Barclay's anytime soon to do something as simple as a change of address.

You are of course right, when I phone them they tell me to go into a branch to change my address.....well that is real easy for someone who lives 3000+ miles away!

Their next solution is a letter......but, that doesn't work!

In the meantime we play this silly game of them sending my statements and credit/debit cards to the wrong address and me cancelling them.

My bank updated 3 account addresses when I moved (I only have two accounts with them).

The third was someone in big debt. It had better have not affected my credit rating or the bank manager will be getting a large amount of stress from me.

percentages - can't you change your address via the online banking systems?

That's what happens when bank statements are sent out by computers at head office, stuffed in envelopes and are never seen by a human until they are opened.

Bring back the pool of typists in your local and have them do a proper job under the supervision of a branch manager who knows his customers on a first-name basis.

LMAO! NO! I can transfer $80,000 per day from my HBOS account to anywhere in the world I wish online, or via telephone, with ease. But, I can't change my address using the same methods.

It is total lunacy! They spend millions trying to get me to use their credit cards, I cancel them immediately because they send them to the wrong address!

I phone them, they ask me numerous security questions (as they should), to prove my identity......then they allow me to do anything I want to my account.....except change my address!

The whole system in the UK is a joke. Here in the US you can do everything online or via phone if you pass the security checks.....seems sensible.

In the UK you can do everything to commit fraud, but nothing to prevent it, unless you can get into one of their damn branches!

Wake up people, it is a Global World now, we have better things to do than fly 3000+ miles to see one of your idiot branch tellers!

Having said that....I just booked tickets to the UK to do exactly that! $5,000, and a bunch of aggrevation, to get my address changed.....good thing I won't be moving again!

I'm rather awed: they don't spend that much on me! ;-)

I just had a chuckle thinking how that would sound to someone using an audible browser reader! :)

Perhaps using Vista with an online Banking account might not be such a good idea:
[news.bbc.co.uk ]

Microsoft has admitted that speech recognition features in Vista could be hijacked so that a PC tells itself to delete files or folders.
