You just have to love the internet. Without it, we might never know that this fellow did a study (online, no less) about what sounds we find most repulsive. So, in the spirit of Foo fun, before you read the article, tell us what one sound is the most offensive to your ears.

I've read the article and I totally agree with number one on the list, the sound of someone puking. Makes me want to, well, puke.

The other sound that I really dislike is the sound of my own voice, over the phone or recorded. I hear that's common, though.

Here's the research [acoustics.salford.ac.uk]

Any new sound my car makes, and it tends to make a lot of them.

>Finally heard the worst sound ever:
>My baby crying.

That is a good sound....

From now on you will live in fear of not hearing it!

the sound of puking stopped bothering me soon after being a parent, but that was the worst sound until then.

at the quiet end, i would have to say the squeaky styrofoam is the most horrible sound imagineable.

at the loud end, i would rank the sound of a mazda rotary race engine as among the worst.

The word "puke" makes me ill. I'd almost rather hear some one do than say it.

I only ever heard it once, and it will stay with me the rest of my days...

The sound of a read/write head connecting with a hard drive platter at full RPM.

This was on a mid eighties 20 megabyte hard drive. I will never, ever forget that sound.

It was a high pitched squeal followed by a "THWACK! - wogga-wogga-woggaTHWACk!" as various bits tore loose and slammed around the inside of the case.
