An electronics company and a movie studio independently rolled out plans on Thursday to bridge the divide between rival high-definition DVD formats with products that would combine two sets of standards.

Thankfully, perhaps a resolution. It just seems crazy that the Blu-ray and HD DVD formats would have been slugging it out in the stores. I think it's too early to tell if the early adopters would have been troubled, but, did you ever own a Betamax video recorder?

This is good news.

There is no way I was going to upgrade to the new format if there were two competing technologies.

I picked right on the Beta vs. VHS battle.

I lost the Apple vs. Dos battle. <duck>
