In my New Year's sorting, cleaning, etc I came across the realization that I'm paying something like 33 cents per minute for inbound 800 number services from one of the big Ma Bells.

Clearly there are options to switch over to something else - anyone got any recommendations or horror stories?

I'm going to try to switch to Vonage - any experiences with them?

Cheers and a happy / safe / fun New Year's to all!

You can try a webmasterworld search [google.com] for previous topics.

Or if you are looking for vonage information, their website is a good start: Vonage [vonage.com] :)

Good luck!

Can't help you with Vonage, but, Sprint has a 5 cent per minute rate for 800 calls and all other national (outgoing) long distance calls! They also offer that rate for many International calls for a additional $10 per month service charge!

It's all about numbers, Vonage may work out better for some, but, if you make a lot of International calls (or get a lot of 800 calls) then I believe Sprint are the best :)

I wish phone company's would make life simple.....It is a real headache to deal with all these idiotic plans. Price it simple people, we have better things to do than decipher your dumb plans!

Vonage will not enable me to use my existing 800 number.

Sprint sounds like the best choice so far if I can switch over.

Discussion about Vonage seems to indicate that quality of service is falling as general internet bandwith usage increases.

If so, this seems this would be a killer.

[webmasterworld.com...] was a useful find.

We've used Sprint for a few years and paid about 7 cents a minute the last I checked which as a few years ago.

Be sure try for a real 800# or at least an 888# which the public knows are toll free. You can get them if you use that as a bargaining chip with your new carrier. Don't accept an 866 or the like.

Vonage didn't work for our business. After a few months and some expensive hardware, we had to cancel. We ended up with Integra Telecom and have been happy.
