Earlier this year a Komodo dragon got pregnant asexually. This is news in the sence that we did not know Komodo dragons could do this, but we do know some reptiles can in a process known as parthenogenesis. Anyway, since it happened again, MSNBC came out with the following title

"Virgin dragon to give birth in holiday season
Komodo managed to become pregnant without male help"

The real shock for me was finding out Reptiles can get pregnant ;-)

This still strikes me as being really freaky. My sister is a biologist and studies this kind of thing - she says that if you thing on a more cellular level it isn't really that surprising. Weird though!
