Cleaned out the email: Dozens of penny stock pump and dumps. A few emails involving "body" enhancement or nutritional supplements. Several were Christmas related, scammy and legit. A few were just plain gibberish. And there was one lone "Nigerian."

Back around 1999, the sex industry was among the first to use unsolicited spam. Today graphic sex spam is almost extinct, although I still get some of the "click to see my pictures" variety.

Did the law kill off these emails? (I doubt it).

Is it possible that online sex just isn't very profitable?

No, im still getting tons of these adult mailings, I am seeing an increase from almost nothing, the stocks and shares rubbish.

The worrying thing is they seem to be able to get past spam filters.

Im also getting loads of emails containing, liek you say, gibberish, whats teh point of those?

I still get lots of "hey I'm that cute 19 year old girl you spoke with last week. Not sure if you tried to contact me but my email has been down. If you'd like to chat visit me at ..." but the picture based stuff has cut down quite a bit

Sex email is far from dead. My filters still let at least 300 per day through.....they are hardcore tryers!

They usually come in batches and are easy to spot by hand. It tells me they are organized, it tells me they are professionals, it tells me they are trouble!

In reality they are just a pain, but, I don't doubt it works with one in tens of millions! It is mass marketing, and one in tens of millions if success to them!

They don't care about all the time wasting misery they add to our lives, they only look for the one person who will buy from them.

To be honest I view USA Commercial TV ads in much the same light. So if I have to take action to avoid TV ads, then I have to take adequate action to avoid email spam:)
