AP via Yahoo News: Wal-Mart's site stalls on Black Friday [news.yahoo.com]

The troubles came a day after Amazon.com Inc.'s site had brief disruptions because of a Thanksgiving Day sale on Microsoft Corp.'s Xbox 360 video game machines.

For much of Friday morning, attempts to open Walmart.com resulted blank pages, delays or other problems. By early afternoon, visitors were simply told to come back later.

Moneris was having problems yesterday, and it affected a LOT of businesses. In our area most in-store debit payments are handled by Moneris and our entire city was unable to use Interac or remote ATMs. Caused a real problem at gas stations where people fill up first then go inside and find out they have no means of paying.

Brian Green, senior vice-president of marketing for Moneris, said the system went down about 5 p.m. and was fixed by about 7:30 p.m.

Does Walmart use Moneris? none of the news stories imply a connection, save that both companies were affected by expected higher-then-normal activity
