From an article in the June NYT magazine:
Poker message boards monitor which sites are teeming with geelehighs and which have been leached dry. To stay in business, sites must attract fish, hold them for as long as possible and replace them when they go broke. According to Mike Shichtman, a professional gambler who consults for the online site Pacific Poker, there is "giant concern" in the industry that the total number of fish may be dwindling. It is, he adds, a trend that can be reversed only by tapping new markets.
There is a chance you were only playing a few people.
This message brought to you by the Committee to Suck the Fun out of Everything
Absolutely!
I've tried all the major online "free" sites, don't like any of them, you can't play poker for "free"!
You are probably also better staying away from online for money sites!
For practice, and free, online can be fun. But, the best way to play is at your local golf, sailing or tennis club (or whatever) with some friends!
If you think you are really good then enter a moderated tourney like the WPT or World Series. I'd stay out of cash Vegas games unless you know the pones....too many are rigged!
I think I'm kinda good at Poker too....but, only expect to win 55% of the pots!
I never play per hand for money I like the buy in games where you buy chips for some money and then just play with chips makes for a lot of fun!
One time I will try and get a few people together and have a laugh and a good game, all my friends are to easy to read! I think thats the problem playing friends you know what they are thinking! Best idea is just to try and get drunk and have a laugh with them!
What is the game of poker about? It's about outwitting your opponents: crushing them when you have the right hand and, and fooling then when you don't.
Unless you have x-ray vision there is no way you know what cards they have and they don't know what cards you have.
So the only way for someone to win (consistently) is to learn body language, smell fear, and mask your own signals.
Let me tell you something. You can't see body language or smell, or sense fear via the internet.....
As the previous poster said: Play it in your golf club, at your friends house, in a bar or casino. But never play online.
Our tv channels here are full of poker tournaments featuring 'our online winner from Grimsby'. The next month the 'online winner is a checkout girl from Essex'.
There are no consistent online winners. They come and go in their thousands because there is so much randomness in the cards and very little edge between players.
If you have to play poker play with someone you can physically smell.

If you are playing games with more than 2 people, you're really good. You're missing out on a lot of money just by posting here.

Huh?
If you have to play poker play with someone you can physically smell.
Online is a different game than in person, but that doesn't mean no one can come up positive. The odds are pretty much the same online and offline as far as poker goes. If nothing else, the rakes are a little lower online.
Yep, but, the money isn't important to me! I like to play to win, how much doesn't much matter! I would sure like a WSOP braclet or WPT glass orniment though! Happy to donate the money to charity, winning a game largely based upon luck would be enough for me!
