I logged into my ebay account this morning to find some scrote has logged in under my name and listed 80 really dodgy tracksuits at MY expense! They are then asking people to send the money to a different paypal account. The email address seems to be from a chinese ISP. (126dotcom)

I sometimes wonder how people mangage to do this. No one knows my passwords. It's bizarre!

Suppose I shall have to wait 100's of years for ebay to get back to me and sort this mess out.

What a great start to a Monday. £250 out of pocket and I haven't been to work yet!

It might have been better if the tracksuits weren't so hideous! Not only that, someone actually bought one.

GRRRRRR!

That's bad news, and i'm sorry to hear that. I wonder how they got into your account. You didn't use a public computer, did you?

I'd change passwords immediately, and get onto fraud prevention with gusto, as that is in effect what it is.

paypal has a phone number in the UK ( with real humans at the other end of the line )..look around their site for it ..you may get your money back faster by talking to them rather than to the blank wall that is ebay customer service ..

Yeah, I changed my password this morning as soon as I saw the listings. I'll try ringing Paypal now.

I can't believe anyone would buy those tracksuits tho ;oP

The most amazing thing just happened!

I got stuck into ebay live help and they resolved the situation in about 2 minutes. Recredited my account and apologised for the mix up.

HAH! I wasn't expecting that!

Wierd but good

Ha Ha They really were the worst chav trackies you ever did see.

Might start a chav affiliate site selling them and those horrid famous tartan baseball caps.

I'm still stunned by the speedy resolution.

NEDS is that a Scottish thing?

Are you sure you were really logging into eBay and not some imposter?

That might also explain how they got your password.

Yes.

Neds = Scottish
Chavs = English

I'd run a full virus scan on any and all pcs that you've used to access your eBay account. If you use the same username/password for other popular sites you may want to change them too.

Heh heh, if only. That would make a lot more sense.

I know I am a bit stupid but I do manage to keep my usernames and passwords unique and I'm sure I would recognise a spoof mail. I always go to ebay via a direct url type in because I'm paranoid about these things. I think the culprit might have busted into my hotmail (ahem) account and done a 'please remind me of my password' thingie at ebay. I changed everything again and my life goes on.

Hopefully the PDA I won last week will turn up in the post soon.

What a wierd day!
