If Google eventually became a synonym for 'search'.

Some thoughts..

If the worst nightmare of Google were to come true and Google turned into a synonym for search, going beyond the Internet, we would have:

'I googled everywhere for my glasses and eventually found them in the drawer'

'We're googling for a new house and have applied for a loan already.'

'Catch that shoplifter! Google his pockets!'

A citywide hunt has been launched to google for the bank robbers.

'Do some soul googling and thou shall find the answer.'

Hi,

Well, all sorts of companies have had their trademark rights undermined this way, which is bad and good:

Hoover, Xerox, Sellotape, Polythene, ...

Hold up a second, you assume Google aren't encouraging this behavior?

Now, all logic might say they shouldn't......BUT!

Please can anyone explain how so many TV shows are allowed to air with "Googling" clearly used as a verb. I'm not talking about live shows, I'm referring to network shows (mainly NBC) where the same writers and producers have encouraged the same use of verb for many years (see the WestWing and Studio60 Scripts).

It appears to me that Google are either incompetent or are actually encouraging this behavior for free advertising?

I Hoover, I Xerox, I Google......maybe the downside ain't so bad?

I googled for some information on Yahoo and MSN. I then hoovered the house with my Dyson.
