A biometric scheme that scans drinkers' thumbprints before they enter a pub has helped cut alcohol-related crime in the South Somerset town of Yeovil.South Somerset District Council said it has seen a 23.5 per cent drop in alcohol-related violent crime inside licensed premises in Yeovil since the system was introduced, compared with figures from the same period last year.
Under the pilot scheme every drinker must supply a thumbprint, name, address and date of birth before being allowed to enter any of the seven licensed premises in the town centre using the technology.
Biometrics cut pub brawls by a quarter [silicon.com]
What, only a quarter?
Thumbprints! It's bad enough having to hand over a credit card in a pub when running a tab, which I refuse to do.
School kids are finger printed before they take out books, and use teh prints as a lib card.Needs to stop now
I can't say I see it getting any better. Most people don't care. By the time the kids are making the laws or even voting for those who do, all sorts of big brotherism will be everywhere.
Manditory fingerprint databases, dna databases, and gps enabled ID cards eventually. It will help with traffic flows, ya know. :) Not to mention, all of the facial recognition checkpoints on every corner of every block.
