More than one in eight adults in the US show signs of being addicted to the internet, a study has shown.
"Addicts" showed signs of compulsive internet use, habitually checking e-mail, websites and chat rooms.

More than 8% of the 2,513 respondents to the Stanford University phone survey said they hid their use from partners.

I'm sure that is a global issue, and it's only going to get worse.

How long can you stay away from your computer?

This is stupid.

To use the term "addict" is wrong. That is a medical term and should be left as such.

What would they prefer, going back to watching more TV or talking on the phone?

I think that around here (WebmasterWorld) the ratio is 'more than 7 in 8'

:)

I can't remember the last day I didn't fire up my computer to check my emails ... not even during weekends ... man I'm sad

i think 8% of people hid their use from their partners because they were looking at porn sites.

From my studies of statistics I came to one conclusion: statistics lie.

My guess is that their telephone survey was biased in some way or another, not giving an accurate representation of the population.
