Create your own domain!

If you could, what would it be?

Following up this question at the newbie forum [webmasterworld.com...] I thought it was actually a great idea to make your own domain.

If you could, which domain would you make?

".nd" for "nerd"
".gk" for "geek"
".wiki" for wikis
".mfa" for "made for adsense"
...

I wish we could do away with TLDs altogether. or, make it possible to register a TLD in the same way we now register domains.

Then my site could just be <snip>, instead of <snip>.

.movie or something simliar. It annoys me to see a url for a movie to be something like [ourtitlemovie.com...] ;)

Personally I would like to see the .cat tld opened for bona-fide feline owners.

Suppose I register the domain ourtitlemovie.com, will it get Google PR from this page? :)

I think it's time to make TLDs based on the type of site.

Some examples:

.blog
.pics
.mfa
.scam
.cloaked
.spammer

... and ...

.dumb (99% of the net)

Personally, I'd rather be able to put a stop to all the ridiculous (in my opinion) domains that have been introduced! .mobi etc.

If it were up to me I would have stopped after .com .net and .org!

All that happens with each new domain is an increase in cost for brand owners who are forced to register yet another version of their domain.

I'm sure that this is where a lot of these companies are looking to make a good portion of their ongoing income from - steady income every two years from all brand owners who really don't need another version of their domain but don't want some domain speculator to load it with adult content (the "fear factor").

If I really had to create my own, I'd probably go for ".uk" (at the moment we need to put a daft ".co" in front of it for some obscure reason). Even better, I'd make all sites that use .co.uk to work with .uk automatically and without additional cost.

I'd also love to see an end to domain speculation. E.g. if you notice that a domain does not have a legit website on it after two years you can appeal to get the domain switched over to you (or something like that). I think the benefits to normal people and (non domain speculator) business far exceeds any difficulty in sorting out the logistics of how it could work.

eelixduppy,

The reason why movies often have movie in the url is simply because domain speculators have already bought the .com .net etc versions. If a new .movie domain was made the same thing would happen with it.
