If you could, which domain would you make?
".nd" for "nerd"
".gk" for "geek"
".wiki" for wikis
".mfa" for "made for adsense"
...
If it were up to me I would have stopped after .com .net and .org!
All that happens with each new domain is an increase in cost for brand owners who are forced to register yet another version of their domain.
I'm sure that this is where a lot of these companies are looking to make a good portion of their ongoing income from - steady income every two years from all brand owners who really don't need another version of their domain but don't want some domain speculator to load it with adult content (the "fear factor").
If I really had to create my own, I'd probably go for ".uk" (at the moment we need to put a daft ".co" in front of it for some obscure reason). Even better, I'd make all sites that use .co.uk to work with .uk automatically and without additional cost.
I'd also love to see an end to domain speculation. E.g. if you notice that a domain does not have a legit website on it after two years you can appeal to get the domain switched over to you (or something like that). I think the benefits to normal people and (non domain speculator) business far exceeds any difficulty in sorting out the logistics of how it could work.
