Hi guys,

What do you think would be the expected Salary for a Support Representative working for a reputed email service company per month? I work for one, I just answer support tickets via email and have to work for about 100-120 minutes a day, but not together, spread around the whole day. I get paid in US$ although I live in India and have to convert it to Rupees by using PayPal. The job is really very interesting for me and I think I am getting paid for something which is becoming my hobby although I do it professionally and not like a 12 year old kid! ;)

To be honest, my employer has always asked me how much I want and I haven't replied, indirectly telling him that whatever he gives is enough.

Sorry if this is posted in the wrong forum, feel free to move it to the appropriate forum.

I pay $12-16/hr for part time email support reps, but only because they are local people I have met, do good work, and I can trust. If I were outsourcing overseas I would maybe pay $4-6, but even then only for flawless English.

Hi,

Thanks for your reply. Why is that you foreginers do not pay a similar salary to both locals and foreigners? ;) After all, the job that both of them are doing is the same. Now that the dollars when converted to rupees fetch more value to Indians than the US ones has nothing to do anything with you, isn't it? And the drop you mentioned from $12-$16 to $4-$6, is huge, its almost 3 times.

It probably isn't the same!

I'm a foreigner to the USA and charge the USA 3 times above the amount they would have to pay locally......and still have more business than I want from them!

The price has nothing to do with borders, it has to do with results and value for money!

A simple example for you to consider.....a good American born Butler will fetch $15 per hour, an average English Butler will make $50 per hour.......so what are we really selling here?

If an Indian earns $4 per hour from an Indian, a US person earns $12 per hour from an US person, a UK guy earns $25 per hour from an UK guy, its fine. But if the same employer pays $4 to an Indian, $12 to an American and $25 to an Englishmen for the same work, I believe its wrong. The employer shouldn't take into account the value of money for the employee, he should only consider the job done by the employee. If its the same by all the 3, he should pay about $10-15 per hourto each of them.

"he should pay about $10-15 per hourto each of them. "

Why outsource then? Is your service particularly technical and valuable? Do you provide something substantially value added, which is not available in the home country or are you just deluding yourself.

For basic support services, expect to be paid substantially less, especially if you are in a third world country. Get real.

Well, I was not talking about my salary in my immediate last post, I was talking in general. Its not that I am not satisfied with my salary or something, but I was talking on behalf of all Indians and similar nations.

My motive of creating this thread was to know what the standard rates of payment are for an Indian support rep.
