Those wacky Google Data Center watchers

What should we call them? Is it okay to feed them?

While struggling to learn about the complex world of SEO and so on, I sometimes lurk in the Google Search News forum and read the "Data Center watch" threads, hoping that if I can just hang in there and keep reading, eventually things will start to make sense to me. While there have been times when I can understand some of what they're talking about in there, I'm afraid that most of the posts in those "Data Center watch" threads are just completely over my head.

So as I was reading through one of them today, I couldn't help but wonder: Who are you people?

When others talk about you, what would you prefer to be referred to as?

"Techno-geeks on the cutting edge"?
"Savvy surfers hanging ten into the Digital Age"?
"Dedicated DC dorks"?
"Hacknologists"?
"Anonymous and all-knowing"?
"The ones who really know where your parents are"?
"Justa buncha happy nerds"?
"Harmless guys who just really dig computers and pizza"?
"SEO scenesters in Google Boy jeans"?

Just people who like to take things apart, I guess.

LOL, I think I've only read one DC thread in its entirety. They can go on forever. It's quite fascinating.

Is it okay to feed them, or should we just leave them alone?

It's been one long, unbroken conversation since last January - a natural outgrowth of the old Google Dance spectating. [webmasterworld.com...]

There have been some times where that thread was the first to spot something about Google that only later became generally noticed. So, I say feed them, most definitely.

Probably you are one of the lucky ones that never had problems with Google. If you loose your G traffic some day maybe you will join the club IMHO :)

Feed them by all means, just use a long spoon. :) Some of them sound biting mad.

Maybe you should look at them working in the 67.104 range (at least for the keywords I manage) but if you try to find them in the .67 servers probably you will find a restored pre-florida backup but if you try to feed them, probably you should look before at the set of results in the (probably new infrastucture of) 866.15.66.197

Let them alone and build your site!

Thanks for that. Probably.

Sound advice :)

Why not call them "Data Center Watchers"?

I used to read that thread with interest until one day I made a comment on another thread about an observation I made on a DC. I was quickly "attacked" by two members that pointed out that watching one center is unreliable because Google can switch them around...

Those individuals post on the DC thread watch all the time. That inconsistency convinced me to give it up. I spend more time writing and rewriting articles.
