BANGKOK, Thailand - Thailand’s army commander ousted Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra in a military coup Tuesday night while he was in New York, circling his offices with tanks, declaring martial law and revoking the constitution.

My daughter called this morning, she has a close friend living in Bangkok. Per our conversation the streets are quiet and people generally feel OK, as to say, not unsafe or uneasy. It's all 3rd hand info.

I'm in Bangkok. I drove my wife into Silom (Central Bangkok) this morning so that she could pay her staff some wages.

Everything seems pretty normal apart from some soldiers here and there on the streets (being from Northern Ireland that seemed pretty normal anyway).

Schools and offices are closed so a days holiday for my two daughters (lucky them).

CNN and BBC satellite feeds were off last night and this morning and the 'modern' music radio stations were pumping out Thai music. TV and radion are back to normal now.

Not too bad so far....
