Search engines search and index all available pages in their index, including their own homepage. Look at the following three caches:

Google's cache of www.google.com [66.249.93.104]
MSN's cache of search.msn.com [cc.msnscache.com]
Yahoo's cache of search.yahoo.com [216.109.125.130]

MSN disclaimer about their cache:
MSN is not affiliated with the content nor parties responsible for the page displayed below.

Yahoo disclaimer about their cache:
Yahoo! is not affiliated with the authors of this page or responsible for its content.

Only Google programmers edited out the disclaimer for caches for www.google.com. They feel responsible for their search engine, even if it is cached.

While Google and Yahoo use an unnamed IP address to serve their cache from, Microsoft found it necessary to use a separate domain name.
